Re: Favorite/Greatest Performances |
Thanks for your DEW suggestion! I have yet to find a legendary version from 84 so I think this one makes the cut. It will likely be obsessed over for the next month or two if its as good as I think it is.

Re: Favorite/Greatest Performances |
Killer!
I don't have any good dews from 83, 88 or 81 so this is great.
I've heard the 1970 version a few times and I agree, I think its quite good. Though I need to hear it more
I never thought too much of 1972-09-16. Prob heard it twice. I went through 72-74 and listened to every dew a while back taking notes and my notes for 9/16 read "Great '72 intro, Jerry just screamin. Good 1st jam, not amazing. 2nd jam is too short. Nice Dew but a bit dissapointing for sept. 72"
Will have to go back and check it out a few more times. Is this your fav. 72 dew? I think 1972-12-31 is likely thee best, textbook wise... But DP 36 (9/21), 10-18, 10-21, and 11-13 are all spectacular. And so far none from europe 72 have stuck out to me.
BTW, have you ever heard the 92 or 94 versions I suggested?

Re: Favorite/Greatest Performances |
Well I'd say part of it is that 72 is so good. And that there are so many world class dews performed this year that they get compared to their peers, not years like 80 or 88. They are certainly better than any I know from other years.
Having Pig and Keith on the stage adds a nice flavor to these dews that is never seen again. It, in a way, is the best of both worlds. Especially when they both play well. Which they seem to be doing during 5/26.
The 5/26 version has a few little flubs which are forgettable, but at a minimum when comparing perfect dews we should be pretty critical. Though I will say that the take off into the final jam starting with jerry's vocals is magnifico (or however you spell that). I think part of what makes this version not the best ever is the fact that it takes off too fast. I enjoy a good slow intro into morning dew that slowly builds. Kinda like 1979-11-08 (really short and rocking) vs. 1994-03-27 (really long, heartfelt AND rocking). This 5/26 version is very good but I disagree. At a minimum 9/21 and 12/31 trump this version, IMO.

I'm partial to the 4/6/82 "Morning Dew." It's got that 'just exactly perfect' thing going on.

Re: Favorite/Greatest Performances |
ya know I think 82 was a really great year for dews. Likely the best of the 80s as, Dew kinda peaked in 72. But for me its about whether its played well or not. I love the different sounds and instruments over the years.
This dew got five out of five and a half possible stars from me. I need to hear it a few times more though.
I dont think any solid judgement can be made about a song until its been listened to at least 2-4 times. Surely not after one listen.
